Diagnostic Laboratory

in-house diagnostic laboratoryNew Haven Pet Hospital’s onsite diagnostic laboratory provides patients rapid and accurate diagnostic results. Some health issues will not show up in a routine exam and the most effective way to diagnose a problem is through the use of laboratory testing. We have a wide variety of diagnostic tests available including:

  • Blood tests
  • Urinalysis
  • Fecal examinations
  • External parasite screening
  • Ear cytology
  • Fungal cultures

Pre-anesthetic Blood Panel Screening

  • Kidney—blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and creatinine
  • Liver—alkaline phosphatase (ALKP) and alanine transaminase (ALT)
  • Total protein (TP)
  • Blood glucose (BG)
  • Albumin (ALB)

For dogs and cats 8 years of age and older, we recommend a larger panel be performed. This panel includes:

  • 12 blood chemistry profiles
  • Complete blood count (CBC)
  • Electrolyte levels

Expanded Laboratory Testing

For your convenience, we have a partnership with outside labs for advanced testing. This helps to keep our costs down for uncommon tests, and we often have the results the following day. Our most commonly referred tests are used to identify pet allergens.

New Haven Pet Hospital looks for opportunities to diagnose and treat your pet’s health conditions from our convenient location. If necessary, we work directly with specialists to provide advanced care without the hassle of a separate trip to see a specialist. Please contact us if you have any questions.
